Windscribe

Windscribe is a VPN application available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, along with browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox. It encrypts a device's internet connection and routes traffic through a network of servers spread across dozens of countries, using protocols such as WireGuard, IKEv2, and OpenVPN.

Beyond the core VPN tunnel, the desktop and mobile apps include a network-level ad and tracker blocker (branded R.O.B.E.R.T.), a firewall that blocks DNS and IPv6 leaks, split tunneling to choose which applications route through the VPN, and port forwarding for reaching home network services remotely. The browser extension adds anti-fingerprinting features such as spoofing the browser's timezone, user agent, and reported location.

The service uses a freemium model. New accounts get a limited amount of free monthly data after verifying an email address, with no credit card required. Unlocking unlimited data and additional server locations requires a paid subscription, billed monthly, annually, or through a customizable plan. Separately from the service itself, Windscribe publishes the source code of its desktop and mobile client applications on GitHub, but this does not extend to the backend service, which remains a commercial product rather than free or open software.
