Proton Pass is the password manager from the Swiss company behind Proton Mail and Proton VPN. Credentials, passkeys, secure notes and payment card details are held in vaults that are encrypted on the device before they leave it, so the stored data is not readable by the service operator. Vaults sync between the Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS clients, the web app, and browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and Brave.

Beyond storing and filling in logins, the app includes a password generator, a built-in two-factor authentication code generator, and hide-my-email aliases: throwaway addresses that forward to your real mailbox and can be switched off if a site starts sending spam or suffers a breach. Paid tiers add unlimited aliases, sharing of vaults with other people, dark web monitoring that warns when your addresses turn up in leaked datasets, and file attachments on entries. Separate business plans cover team management and single sign-on.

The free tier covers unlimited logins, notes and cards on unlimited devices with a limited number of aliases, which is enough for straightforward personal use. It is a reasonable choice if you want your vault tied to a privacy-focused provider or you already pay for other Proton apps, since the bundled plan covers all of them. It is a weaker fit if you need offline, self-hosted or local-only storage, since the vault lives in Proton's cloud and an account is required, or if you want the sharing and monitoring features without taking on a recurring subscription.
