TeraCopy

TeraCopy is a file transfer utility for Windows that steps in front of the copy and move operations normally handled by Explorer. Transfers are queued rather than run all at once, so several jobs started in a row execute one after another instead of competing for the same disk. If a file cannot be read or written, the operation does not collapse: the problem file is set aside, the rest of the queue continues, and the failed items can be retried afterwards from the report.

Its distinguishing feature is verification. The program can calculate a checksum for each file at the source and compare it against the copy at the destination, using a range of algorithms including CRC32, MD5, SHA-1, BLAKE3 and xxHash3. Checksum files can also be generated and tested separately, which makes the tool practical for confirming that an archive survived a move to another drive intact. Files locked by another process can be copied through an elevated helper service backed by Volume Shadow Copy, and there is control over which metadata travels with the file, such as timestamps, alternate data streams and permissions.

The free edition covers the core work: shell integration, verification, checksum handling, locked file copying and the transfer report with speed and time estimates. The paid Pro and Business editions add higher copy parallelism, copying to several destinations in one pass, editing the file list before a transfer starts, saved favourite folders, and exporting reports to HTML or CSV. Commercial use requires one of the paid editions.

It is a good fit for anyone regularly shifting large volumes of data between disks, external drives or network shares, and for people who need proof that what arrived matches what was sent. It is less relevant if you only copy the occasional document, or if you are looking for scheduled, versioned backups, since TeraCopy performs transfers on demand and does not manage backup sets or retention.
